March 22nd - World Water Day
The awareness of the importance and irreplaceableness of water in human life has prompted the General Assembly of the United Nations to declare the World Water Day on March 22nd, celebrated every year. The main goal is to focus attention on the importance of drinking water and preservation of water resources, as well as raising the level of ecological awareness and sustainable development.
This year's theme of the World Water Day is 'Leaving no one behind', aimed to show how access to water, sanitation and sustainable water management can be the driving forces of change.
Croatia is one of the Europe's countries richest in water resources, and Vodoopskrba i odvodnja Ltd. as a public supplier of drinking water in the area of Zagreb, Samobor, Sveti Nedjelja and Stupnik, daily 24/7 takes care of regular supply and high quaity of drinking water.
Since the beginning of the Zagreb waterworks (1878), the citizens of this city are consuming water which, due to the structure of the soil of the Sava aquifer, has extremely high quality and is also bacteriologically and chemically healthy.
0.74% of the citizens, 5,830 of them to be exact, are still waiting for the construction of water supply network. Project "Water in every household", launched in cooperation with the City of Zagreb will provide drinking water in their households as well.
