Preventive measures against internal installations freezing
In order to avoid the possibility of water freezing in the consumer connecting pipelines (breaking of the water meter pane, connecting pipes etc.) it is necessary to take the following into consideration:
- Consumers must take care not to leave the installations without supervision for long periods of time in the state in which the water supply system is full and without flow, in order to prevent freezing of water in internal installations.
- There is a possibility of internal water supply installations freezing if not installed at the prescribed depth and if no water has been discharged in the garden taps mounted above the water meter shaft. Under low temperature conditions it is desirable for the consumer to conduct a regular inspection of the water meter shaft, to ensure that the lid is closed, and in case of extremely low temperatures it is necessary to protect the installations within the water meter shaft with protective equipment (at hand: blankets, cloth or prescribed: glass wool, etc.)
- It is important to keep the water meter from freezing and to prevent cracking of the pane on the meter, on the connecting pipelines in the basement rooms that are not heated, especially in areas with unprotected openings (broken basement windows)
- Consumers with water meter cabinets in outer walls of buildings need to examine them and possibly prevent freezing (especially if heating elements inside the cabinet are dysfunctional or not installed)

There is no significant possibility of water freezing in the water supply network. The external water supply network (under the authority of the water supply provider) is designed and constructed in such a way as to prevent water retention, i.e. to ensure its constant flow, and upon construction the water supply pipes are laid at a proper depth in the ground where the temperatures are significantly above the atmospheric temperature. There is no fear concerning the supply of water to citizens, as there is a constant flow of water inside the network and the pipes are designed and laid deep enough to avoid the risk of water freezing.
